How to make your wedding reception memorable (for all the right reasons)

There are loads of ways you can make your wedding reception stand out from the crowd. Whether you want to make a statement with some of the big decisions of the day or just want to add some special little touches, read on and be inspired…

Getting someone to help you with the logistics of your big day will free up your time allowing you to spend your precious energy looking at the big picture. You can concentrate on the fun, creative side of planning a wedding and leave the nitty gritty to someone else. You won’t have to worry about checking that the flowers have arrived, that the band knows where to set up, or that the seating plan has been altered due to a last-minute no-show, so you can enjoy your special day! At No.4 Hamilton Place our highly experienced wedding team can help with as much of the planning as you like.

The Dress / Outfit

Choosing the perfect dress is one of the most exciting decisions the bride gets to make, so why not stand out from the crowd? Or for the groom – have a number of outfits at the ready to change throughout your day! Go a little off-piste with your wedding gown and consider a colourful dress that will certainly turn heads, or try something of a slightly unusual cut – perhaps a 50s-style gown, or something reminiscent of the roaring 20s or have an extra long train? Whatever you choose it will give you licence to dress your venue accordingly – another area in which you can really make an impact.

Most weddings tend to have some sort of theme, even if it’s as simple as a colour scheme. If you want your wedding to be really memorable you could be bold with a strong theme. One that works brilliantly at No.4 Hamilton Place is 1920s. Our beautiful, historic town house is the perfect setting for Gatsby girls, jazz bands on the Terrace and stylish Art Nouveau decorations.

White dresses, gushing speeches, dad dancing… weddings can begin to roll into one for guests who have a run of celebrations coming up. Choosing really memorable entertainment is one way you can do something a little bit different without stepping out of your comfort zone in a traditional wedding setting. Perhaps welcome guests with an opera singer at your reception drinks or consider having undercover singers, silhouette artists, belly dancers, living statues… the possibilities are endless for unusual entertainment ideas that will take your wedding reception to a whole other level!

It goes without saying that the food at your wedding reception needs to be exceptional, but what can you do to make it stand out from everyone else’s? Rather than opting for a formal sit down meal, you could position food stations serving different cuisines around your venue, giving guests a chance to sample a few different dishes throughout the night. No.4 Hamilton Place offers a fantastic world foods BBQ menu on the terrace, perfect for switching it up from a traditional wedding meal. For pudding, there are loads of creative ways you can give your guests a sweet treat. A cupcake decorating station will inject a sense of fun and will look brilliantly colourful. Or how about a tower of doughnuts rather than a traditional tiered cake or dessert canapés as people mingle on the terrace? A quick look on our Pinterest page will give you loads more ideas.

Similarly, getting creative with your wedding reception beverages and the way you serve them can really make an impact, and it doesn’t need to cost the earth. If you want your wedding to have a rustic feel to it, wheel barrows filled with ice make an unusual place to store bottles. If you’re serving bubbles, why not create a serving table filled with fruits and purees for people to add to their glass? For later on in the evening, a hot chocolate bar will be a real hit and give guests a little sugary pick me up to keep on dancing.
