SUMMER PARTY THEMES
Every year the bar gets raised on summer parties. Entertainment gets more innovative, food and drink become even more lavish and decorations become more flamboyant than ever before. So, how do you make your party stand out from the rest? Having a theme is a great way to make your party memorable. It will also give your event cohesion and can act as a useful icebreaker for your guests.
Have a look at some of our great summer party themes – ideas for your 2015 summer party and be inspired…
October sees the release of Spectre, the new James Bond film, so why not harness the summer hype and go all 007 with your event. For entertainment think roulette wheels and casino tables, maybe a laser harp to celebrate Bond’s love of gadgetry or even a shooting gallery – there’s nothing like a little healthy competition to get a party going. The great thing about a Bond theme party is that the dress code is simple – dinner jackets for men and evening wear for women. You’ll obviously need to set up a Martini cocktail bar and don’t forget to add some of the classic James Bond theme tunes like Sky Fall and Nobody Does it Better to your playlist.
Billowing silks, colourful tents, tea lights in latticed lanterns and brightly-coloured throw cushions create the perfect setting for a Moroccan-themed summer party. As well as giving you great scope with the décor, a Moroccan event also means you can get really creative with the food and drink. For Moroccan-inspired canapés how about some lamb tagine skewers with a yoghurt dip, spiced chickpea cakes and sweet filo pastry cases filled with chopped dates and almond paste? Welcoming guests with an ice-cold mint tea cocktail would be a great way to kick the party off and to add a truly authentic feel to your party, pull all the stops out and hire some hookah pipes.
If your event is an informal affair, then you can’t go wrong with a tropical beach party. Hawaiian music or a steel drum band, grass skirted-waitresses and loud-shirt-clad waiters and colourful cocktails like pina coladas – what’s not to love? Just make sure you invest in, or hire some indoor and outdoor heat lamps – cold guests are never a good thing. Nice touches could include slush puppy cocktails, mini Mr Whippy-style dessert canapés, beach ball lanterns, a limbo line and potted palm trees.

A classic garden party is a charming summer event theme, if you’re hosting guests with more traditional tastes. A string quartet is a great choice of music to welcome people and if you’ve got the space a croquet lawn will be a big hit. Serve cucumber sandwiches (no crusts, naturally), mini egg and salmon bagels, bite-sized scones and little crumpets topped with butter and jam. Champagne and iced tea are good ideas for cocktail bases and of course make sure you don’t forget the bunting!
Wimbledon signals the beginning of summer and makes a brilliant choice of theme for your party. Deck your space out with fake grass if there’s no lawn, table tennis tables for guests to play on and if it’s a day time event and licencing allows, make sure you have the match on in the background. Strawberries and cream is a must-serve dish accompanied by a classic Pimms cocktail.
