MEET THE TEAM – NICHOLAS DENNIS, CATERING MANAGER
Food and drink is a hugely important part of any event, which is why we’ve decided to introduce you to our General Catering Manager Nicholas Dennis in this week’s ‘meet the team’ feature. Nicholas is responsible for the overall management of the catering operations at No.4 Hamilton Place and has worked in events all over the world.
How long have you been at No.4 Hamilton Place?
What makes you good at your job?
I take great pride in continually evolving the food, beverage and service standards at No.4. I do this by keeping up to speed with all the latest trends and spend a lot of time building strong, customer-focused teams. I also never lose focus when making sure we meet individual client’s needs.
What do you love most about your job?
Every day is a new challenge and an opportunity to learn more about our industry and the industries our clients come from. I also have enthusiastic and professional teams at both No.4 Hamilton Place and foodbydish to work with, making the days even more enjoyable.
What’s the best event you’ve ever worked on?
My first ever professional event experience was on a boat in the middle of Sydney harbour, right in front of the famous Sydney harbour bridge for NYE fireworks.
What’s the most challenging thing about your job?
The long hours and keeping your energy levels up from morning till night as a Catering Manager.
Have you ever saved an event from near disaster?
I’ve been through everything from power cuts in the kitchen and evacuations to missed deliveries and last-minute requests. I believe you have to remain calm, focused and confident as there’s always a way to get the job done.
What fantasy event would you want to work on?
We recently met a client who ran an annual world BBQ steak judging competition, being Australian how could this not be a fantasy event for me to run?!
What’s your favourite space at 4HP and why?
It would have to be the Terrace with its large, beautiful and flexible outdoor space overlooking Hyde Park. The adjoining ornate and spacious Argyll Room is the icing on the cake. I can’t wait to see our new BBQ menu in action this summer (launched on 28th April 2016).
