MEET THE TEAM – LUCY DENNY
Organisers have to place a lot of trust in the events team at their venue. In a small amount of time a very close relationship needs to be established in order to work together to pull off a perfect event. That’s why we thought it would be a good idea to help you get to know some of the team here a bit better. In the second of our ‘Meet The Team’ series, we’d like to introduce you to our Venue Events Co-ordinator, Lucy Denny.
How long have you been at 4HP and what had you been doing previously?
I joined No.4 Hamilton Place in January 2015. Before then I worked largely in the health and education sector organising training and development events.
What makes you good at your job?
Excellent organisation coupled with strong communication, sales and customer service skills. *blushes!*
What do you love most about the events industry?
The variety of it all – working with a huge range of different personalities on corporate as well as private functions. You also get a good balance of admin and face to face work and I love the fast-paced nature of the job.
What do you love most about your job?
I love bringing an event to life; initially discussing the bare bones of the enquiry with the client, and finally after much collaboration, watching it come into fruition on the date – which is incredibly rewarding. I particularly enjoy seeing the venue transformed and all the smiling guests enjoying it.
What is the biggest challenge you face in your role?
The intensity of the job is thrilling but it also adds pressure as there is never enough time!
What is the best event you’ve ever worked on?
I recently co-ordinated a complex but really exciting birthday bash which was exclusive hire of the venue and completely transformed No.4 Hamilton Place. The theme was ‘Opulent Dream’ and involved working closely with a production team, a number of bands, and a whole host of external suppliers to realise the client’s vision. It was amazing.
What’s your professional claim to fame?
What fantasy event would you want to work on?
Being a creative person I love working on themed events, especially the exotic, surreal and bizarre. It would be fun to use the roof terrace and transform it into an Alice in Wonderland garden.
What’s your favourite space at 4HP and why?
The Argyll Room & Terrace. The Terrace has a lovely view of Hyde Park and also one of my favourite sculptures in Mayfair: Bushra Fakhoury’s Dunamis (a man singlehandedly holding up a life size elephant) which symbolises human struggle to achieve excellence, pushing boundaries to make the impossible possible. The Terrace was recently refurbished and is very popular for summer parties. The Argyll Room is stunning, it retains many original Edwardian details and just oozes elegance.
