HANDLEY PAGE AND SOPWITH ROOM REFURBISHMENT

Written by Emily Falconer on 6th April 2016

We’re delighted to announce that the refurbishment of two of our smaller spaces has been completed. A seven-week long project has seen two of our second floor rooms undergo floor to ceiling makeovers, and the results are fabulous.

Décor and details

Both of these great spaces benefit from original features including panelling and cornicing. Our decorating team has carefully re-painted both rooms paying special attention to these intricate areas, ensuring they maintain their charm and detail. Two subtle colours were blended during the refurbishment to make the panelling and detail stand out beautifully.

Lighting

Although both the Handley Page Room and Sopwith Room boast huge windows which allow in lot of natural light, we wanted to make sure that the space could be shown off in all its glory, whatever the weather or time of day. The new ceiling lighting does just this, as does the clever new back-lighting, created during the refurbishment, in the book cases and display cabinets in both rooms. The new dimmer switches also allow complete control over the brightness of the lighting, giving organisers the opportunity to set an appropriate mood for any event.

Windows

We’re proud of the history of our beautiful Edwardian town house, which is why we restore rather than replace wherever possible. The windows in both the Handley Page Room and Sopwith Room have been given a lot of love during this recent refurbishment project. The casements have been stripped back, sanded, filled, treated and re-painted, giving the views from the Handley Page Room, over Hyde Park, the framing they deserve. The treatment was carried out to the interior and exterior of the windows to make sure the woodwork is protected from the weather for years to come. New fixtures and fittings finish off the windows’ new look, perfectly.
