MEET THE TEAM – JABER JULFIKER, GENERAL CATERING MANAGER

This month we’d like to introduce you to our General Catering Manager, Jaber Julfiker. One of our newest members of staff, Jaber talks to us about his favourite 4HP space, one of his professional highlights and what qualities he thinks he brings to his new role.

How long have you been at No.4 Hamilton Place?

I joined in May this year, so I’ve not been here very long as General Catering Manager!

What makes you good at your job?

I like to think I have a good eye for detail and I really believe in working together as a team.

 

What do you love most about your job?

Going the extra mile for each and every client, no matter what size the event, large or small.

 

What’s the best event you’ve ever worked on?

There are so many of them it’s difficult to choose. One 4th July party was particularly memorable to me.

 

As Catering Manager I was in charge of all menu decisions and so first of all I had to create an American themed BBQ menu, which was fun and not too challenging as we already had North and South American BBQ food continent options available in our BBQ menus. However, I did make several changes to them to adopt the client’s theme; such as Rainbow Slaw to accompany the American style burger.

 

For real authenticity we served a couple of Texas beef brisket to make brisket sandwiches. As guests came to the food station our chefs were carving the meat; It was a culinary art to watch.

We also made 120 cupcakes, they were regular-sized cupcakes and we decorated them in red, white and blue, some with stars on so they could then be laid out collectively to form the image of the American flag.

For dessert we served strawberry cheesecake and fruit skewers. The cheese cake was cut to look like an American ship with high flag, and the fruit skewers were made of raspberries, white marshmallows and blueberries to stick with the colour scheme. They looked fantastic against black slate style serving platters.

I would say we achieved 11 out of 10 on that event and got amazing feedback from the client about all the extra touches we had produced.

 

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

The long hours can take their toll. But that’s the event industry!

 

Have you ever saved an event from near disaster?

Once a client only booked the catering for their event but had forgotten to book the meeting room. I raised the alarm and spoke to the client and made sure they had a space to host their event in.

 

What fantasy event would you want to work on?

I love themed events, especially summer parties with live bands. That said, I think every event is special and unique, so they all have their merits.

What’s your favourite space at 4HP and why?

I really love the Business Lounge. It’s on the third floor so the views are great over Hyde Park. It’s only a small space (it fits 40 theatre style), but it’s beautifully presented and has very high spec equipment. Of course the Argyll with the roof terrace is something special too.
